Dear Nione family,
Every so often, a story comes along that does more than entertain — it softens us. It challenges our assumptions, opens our hearts, and invites us to love more like Christ does: patiently, fully, and without condition.
This weekend, we’re inviting you into five such stories. These are films that reflect the quiet beauty, courage, and faith often found in the journey of autism — and the families and individuals who walk that road with strength and grace.
Whether you’re watching as a family, reflecting on your own journey, or simply seeking to understand more deeply, these films offer something meaningful. No loud drama, no distractions — just truth, compassion, and the kind of empathy that leads to action.
1. Temple Grandin (2010)
“Different, not less.”
This powerful film tells the true story of Temple Grandin, an autistic woman whose unique perspective changed the livestock industry — and the way the world understands autism.
Her story is one of perseverance, faith, and the power of having just one person believe in you. If you’re a parent, teacher, or mentor, this is a reminder of the impact encouragement can have.
“The Lord delights in those who fear Him, who put their hope in His unfailing love.” – Psalm 147:11
2. The Reason I Jump (2020)
The gift of listening.
This stunning documentary is based on the writings of a young non-speaking autistic boy. It’s an invitation to slow down, pay attention, and consider that communication can take many beautiful forms.
You’ll leave this one reminded that understanding doesn’t begin with speaking — it begins with listening.
3. Parenting: Children with Autism in Kenya
Our own voices. Our own testimonies.
This Kenyan mini-documentary features parents courageously sharing their experiences raising children with autism in our local context. Their honesty is disarming — not because it is dramatic, but because it is real.
From moments of fear to moments of faith, this film beautifully illustrates that while challenges are real, so is God’s grace.
“Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.” – Galatians 6:2
4. Life, Animated (2016)
Connection through story.
This heartfelt documentary follows a family who found a way to reach their autistic son through animated films. It’s a moving reminder that sometimes, love requires us to meet others exactly where they are — even if it’s not where we expected.
5. Loop (Pixar Short, 2020)
8 minutes of pure compassion.
This animated short may be brief, but the message is lasting. It tells the story of a non-verbal girl on a canoe with a classmate — and the quiet understanding that unfolds between them.
It’s about patience, presence, and the willingness to let someone else set the pace.
Why We Share These Stories
At Nione, we believe awareness is not about spotlighting disability — it’s about seeing with God’s eyes. Autism is not a delay to be feared. It’s a different, beautiful way of experiencing the world.
These films remind us that empathy can be learned. Understanding can grow. And the body of Christ is made stronger when every member is seen, valued, and embraced.
As you watch, we pray these stories plant seeds of compassion in your heart — seeds that grow into conversations, actions, and a deeper commitment to inclusion in our homes, churches, and communities.
If you’ve seen a film or story that touched your heart, we’d love to hear from you. Let’s continue this journey together — one story, one heart, one act of understanding at a time.
With faith and love,The Nione Initiative Foundation Team
